frequently asked questions
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are the application of synthetic hairs to your natural eyelashes. They are placed close to the base of your natural eyelash, but never touching your skin. This makes them comfortable to wear and they should never hurt.
Please head over to our services page to read more about the different types of eyelash extensions that we offer.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
Eyelash extensions are glued to a single natural lash and will stay on that lash for about 6 weeks, or until that natural lash sheds naturally. Aftercare, lifestyle, eyelash characteristics will all play a factor in how long they last. Those who do hot yoga, for example, may need to come in for fills more often due to sweating (oil breaks down lash glue). Clean lashes means for longer retention and healthier lashes. You’ll want to wash them every day as you do your face. There are no guarantees on how long your lash extensions will last due to these factors.
How do I know when to come in for eyelash fills?
Each person’s natural lash cycle varies, meaning some will want to come in every 2 weeks while some can go 4 weeks and still have full lashes. Those whose lashes grow fast will want to come in more often. As your lashes grow through their cycle, the extension comes with it. At fill appointments we remove all grown out lashes and replace them with a new one close to the base of the natural lash. Keep in mind, following aftercare instructions will aid in the longevity of your lash extensions.
If you wait too long to get a fill and there are less than 30% of your lash extensions left, it will be considered a new set.
Do eyelash extensions damage the natural lash?
No. When applied correctly, extensions are not damaging. It is damaging when an eyelash extension is placed on more than one natural lash as all our lashes are at a different growth stages at once. When one lash wants to shed and there is an extension on that lash, as well as another, it will pull the eyelash, that isn’t ready to shed yet, off. Additionally, when the natural lash is enduring too much weight from excessive glue or length, the hair follicle will become weaker with time. This is what causes permanent lash damage as the hair follicle is being repeatedly damaged.
Artigiana Beauty takes extra care to place an extension onto only one of your natural lashes and never to your skin. The procedure is pain-free and because we take care that we don’t apply extensions that are too heavy, or overloaded with glue, they feel weightless.
Do you do patch tests?
Yes, we do. If you are worried you will get an allergic reaction to the adhesive we will do a patch test a few days prior to a new lash set. Please note that patch tests DO NOT guarantee that you won’t get a reaction later on. Allergic reactions can develop over time as you expose yourself to the allergen, meaning they can occur at any point (after fills or new sets).
What do I need to do before my eyelash extension appointment?
Please check out our eyelash extensions page to see what you need to do to prepare for your appointment.
How long does the appointment take?
We lash every single one of your natural lashes that can safely hold an extension. Due to this, appointment times vary depending on how many natural lashes you have and the type of extensions you get. Full sets range from 3-4 hours and fills from 2-3 hours. This is a meticulous procedure that cannot be rushed. You will be laying down on a spa bed in a calm private studio setting.
How do I take care of my eyelash extensions?
Wash your lashes daily with an eyelash extension specific cleanser. NO baby shampoo (it is not made for the eye area). Pat with a clean towel to dry.
Gently brush your lashes daily with the supplied lash brush.
Always use oil free products around your eyes. This includes makeup, face wash, makeup remover, moisturizer, and eye cream.
Do not pick, pull, or rub your extensions.
Avoid extreme heat, sweat, and saunas. Avoid getting close to direct heat such as campfires and ovens.
Avoid sleeping on your extensions. You will lose more lashes on whichever side you sleep on.
Please see a trained technician to have your extensions removed as removing them yourself can pull out your natural lashes.
